General Conference Notes

Today the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints held General Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah(this is a meeting broadcasted throughout the world through television, radio and online media).  The first two sessions were held today (from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M. and from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M.).

In this meeting, the General Presidencies, Apostles, and brothers and sisters serving in the church meet together to uplift and guide one another.  We believe that the speaker’s messages are inspired by God, and will provide us peace and hope if we obey their councils.  (The speakers are Apostles and Prophets of God)  All people, not just members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, are encouraged to listen to all 4 sessions of General Conference, and to abide by their teachings.

Here are some things that stood out to me during today’s General Conference sessions.

GENERAL CONFERENCE APRIL 2015

Morning Session

President Eyring (First Counselor of the First Presidency of The Church)

The Law of the Fast

How can we know who and how to help others?

Fasting is mainly to help us develop humility and faith in the Lord.

Fast offerings will be given to men who God will then direct to bless those in need.

**If we fast, the Lord will answer us when we call.**

President Boyd K. Packer (President of the Qourum of the 12 Apostles)

A Cookie and a Kiss

We are still commanded to multiply and replenish the earth. Having children is the key to happiness. Use the Atonement.

President Linda K. Burton

Honor Men

Thee lift me and I lift thee and

we will ascend together.

Elder Dallin H. Oaks

Parable of the Soil BE CONVERTED

We need to be rooted in the teachings of the Gospel.

  1. Increase exposure to true Doctrine

Be Respectful during the Sacrament

“key hole view”

We must have an eternal perspective.

Deceitfulness of riches **Materialism**

Fear of the future- hinders our going forward in faith.

Don’t surrender to the cares of the world

Priority—really live what you believe

Seek a mighty change of heart.

Elder L. Whitney Clayton (President of the 70)

The Savior’s Light

  1. Desire and willingness to believe.

Seek before you find, knock before it’s opened unto you.

*The more we follow His light and have faith in Him, His light will increase.*

CHOOSE TO BELIEVE

  1. Embrace Belief

We have to actively choose to believe. We must take a leap of faith.

Align your actions with your beliefs.

Elder L. Tom Perry

Our Families and Marriages are NOT Temporary

Courage to seek truth–> Be revolutionaries.

Families are sacred.

How is our church’s beliefs different concerning family?

Only we have the eternal perspective of the Restored Gospel. We believe we can be forever families.

The commitment to our families is the happiest way to live. It is the key to happiness. In marriage and families we can find common values with almost everybody.

Afternoon Session

Elder David A. Bednar

How fear is dispelled through faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the only source of enduring peace. He allows us to have an eternal perspective and to “Hush our fears”. In D+C 19:23 it says, “Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me.”

  1. Look to Christ (D+C 6:36)

With his eyes fixed upon Jesus, Paul had faith to walk upon the water with Jesus’ help. But when he focused on the wind and the storm, he lost his faith and became scared. We must keep our gaze on Christ at all times, in all things, and in all places.

  1. Build upon the Salvation of Christ

We can do this by remembering to keep our ordinances and covenants.

  1. Press forward with faith in Christ

Nephi said, “Ye must press forward with a steadfastness of faith, having a perfect brightness of hope….”

“Godly fear is a source of peace, assurance and confidence.”

Godly fear is…

Reverence, respect and aw for Christ is Godly fear.

When we are willing to submit our will to His will.

We will ALL be judged. Based upon our desires (good= J bad= L)

Fear God and keep his commandments

Godly fear expels mortal fears.

We are made whole by God’s grace after all we can do.

Loving and trusting in God is Godly love.

Elder D. Todd Christoffersonà How does not just love, but love AND marriage combined complete your marriage?

The Plan of Happiness

  1. Creation of the Earth
  2. The Fall
  3. Redemption from the Fall
  4. US (Getting married, Having children and families)

Nothing is more important than physical birth ands spiritual re-birth. These are the two prerequisites for eternal salvation.

Many things are good, many are important. But few are essential.

Find approval in God’s sight.

Elder Wilford W. Andersen (of the 70) D+C 8

We can learn the dance steps with our minds. But, we hear the music with our hearts.

The dance steps are the commandments of the Gospel.

The music of the Gospel is the Holy Ghost.

How can we teach our children to hear the music of the Gospel?

  1. Parents should keep their own lives in tune with the Spirit.

Ponder the path of your feet.

  1. When you can hear the music yourselves, you should perform the music in your homes. If it doesn’t work out, keep practicing.

Elder Dale G. Renlund Be true Latter-Day Saints

The church is like a big hospital. We are all sick. We come to church (really, to Christ) to be healed. We must be tolerant, even kind to everyone, no matter how they treat us.

God cares more about who we are becoming than who we were or are. We must keep trying and let others do the same.

Elder Michael T. Ringwood

Be more anxious to serve than to have dominion.

Choose the Right for the right reasons. Choose the Right because you love the Lord and want to be a disciple of Christ. In our purist of me and mine have we forgotten thee and thine?

Elder Quentin L. CookHow do we deal with the harsh realities that surround us?

Bl00M WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED!! Sunflowers follow the sun. In a similar way, we can follow the “sun” or the light of Christ, despite where we are planted. Have family prayer, scripture study, Sabbath Day observance.

I realize this is a lot of notes, but there was simply so many good things in today’s sessions.  If you didn’t have the opportunity to watch or listen to General Conference, please Click here to listen or watch General Conference.  Please don’t think that only members of the Church can benefit from General Conference.  It is no true.  I admonish you to at least give it a shot.  Because you don’t have anything to lose.  Rather, you have so much to gain.

Please leave some comments below if you watched General Conference.  What did you think?  Which talk was your favorite?

Back to School Post #1: Cute Nail Ideas :)

Hey Guys (or should I say Gals!!)

The summer is coming to a close.  But, with every ending comes a new beginning.  So here are 3 REALLY cute and easy DIY nail ideas!!  Hope you enjoy them.  🙂

Idea #1 Stripes, Polka Dots, Anchors and Sparkles!!!

NOTE: These are actually my nails!! I got them done today at a beauty school, and they did a really good job!!

NOTE: These are actually my nails!! I got them done today at a beauty school, and they did a really good job!!

The Polka dot look can be achieved by taking a pin and dipping the plastic head into your color (in my case, they did white).  The anchor just takes a little effort and a tiny brush (you might be able to use a toothpick.)  The same goes for the stripes.  Overall, this is a really cute l look.  TIP: Don’t want your nail polish to come off?  Use Acrylic nail polish.  You have to use a drill to remove it. 🙂

Idea #2: Chevron All the Way!!!

hqdefault

These are NOT my nails, but I also LOVE them! The pink and orange is so cute by themselves, but with the chevron ( Did I say that I love chevron?!) it is 10 times cuter.

I don’t know about you, but I love chevron.  Combining 2 colors like orange and pink looks really girly and cute.  The jewels are also a nice touch.  Here is a video describing how they made this look.  (BTW, ‘they’ is Trendy Polish!!)

(I found them on this site:http://www.nhave.com/nail-print-designs/trendy-colorful-zebra-stripe-motif-nail-art-design-for-your-colorful-day/) I don’t have a video for you guys here, but I’m sure if you used a toothpick or some other tool, you can rock these zebra stripes!!

Comment down below and tell me which nail idea was your favorite!!   Also, comment and tell me what back to school posts you would be interested in.

Thanks Guys, and Have a wonderful Friday Afternoon!!!

Rambling and Other Funny Stuff- It makes Perfect Sense, If you don’t Think About it

It’s funny how we often end up telling mere friends our problems instead of our family.  It’s our friend that is the shoulder to cry on in moments of suffering.  In fact, we tend to alienate and push away the ones who love us most.

Do we not trust our families?  Is it that we trust our friends more?  It’s quite perplexing if you think about it.  And if you don’t, it makes perfect sense.

It all boils down to this.  We have to live with our families almost 24/7.  Our friends, on the other hand, we see maybe 3 times a week- 4 if we’re lucky. Living with your family can drive you mad.  (If it hasn’t already, give it time.  It shouldn’t take more than a month)

Your friends, however, are a completely different story.  And so we now understand this phenomenon of human nature.  As I like to say, it makes perfect sense– if you don’t think about it.

You Probably Have Never Thought About….

Hey Guys,

Here are many things you probably have never thought about, and after reading, will probably never think about again. However, these kind of questions are kinda cool to think about, aren’t they? For more “deep thoughts” visit the below web adress. http://researchmaniacs.com/DeepThoughts/YouProbablyHaveNeverThoughtAbout.html

Can you cry under water?

How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?

If money doesn’t grow on trees, then why do banks have branches?

Since bread is square, then why is sandwich meat round?

Why you have to “put your two cents in”…but it’s “a penny for your thoughts”? Where’s that extra penny going to?

Once you’re in heaven, do you get stuck wearing the clothes you were buried in for eternity?

Why does a round pizza come in a square box?

What disease did a cured ham actually have?

How is it that we put a man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

Why is it that people say they “slept like a baby” when babies wake up like every two hours?

If a deaf person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing?

If you drink Pepsi at work in a Coke factory, will they fire you?

Why are you in a movie, but you’re on tv?

Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?

How come we choose from just two people for President and fifty for Miss America?

Why do Doctors leave the room while you change? They’re going to see you naked anyway.

If a 911 operator has a heart attack, whom does he/she call?

Why is “bra” singular and “panties” plural?

Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet soup?

Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, “I think I’ll squeeze these dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out!”

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp, which no decent human being would eat?

Why is there a light in the fridge and not one in the freezer?

When your photo is taken for your driver’s license, why do they tell you to smile? If you are stopped by the police and asked for your license, are you going to be smiling?

If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a stupid song about him?

Can a hearse carrying a corpse drive in the carpool lane?

If the professor on Gilligan’s Island can make a radio out of a coconut, why can’t he fix a hole in a boat?

Why do people point to their wrist when asking for the time, but don’t point to their crouch when they ask where the bathroom is?

Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They’re both dogs!

What do you call male ballerinas?

Can blind people see their dreams? Do they dream?

If Wyle E. Coyote had enough money to buy all that ACME crap, why didn’t he just buy dinner?

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from?

Is Disney World the only people trap operated by a mouse?

Do the Alphabet and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune?

Why did you just try singing the two songs above?

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog’s face, he gets mad at you, but when you take him for a car ride; he sticks his head out the window?

Summer Bucket List

Hey Everyone,

Here are a few (and then some 🙂 ) things I want to get done this summer.  Whenever I am bored or just want something fun to do, I will look at this list and pick something.  Can you tell I’m excited for summer?  (10 days left!!)

1. Make homemade corn dogs (I love hot dogs, but everyone can make those so I thought corn dogs would be fun to make!!)

2. Host soccer and basketball games at the park and basketball court. (I really don’t like running by itself, but when you put it into a game, I will SO be there!!  I just thought this would be fun to do with some of my friends!!)

3. Go bike riding!! (I LOVE bike riding. My goal is to go at least 2 times a week.  We will see!!)

4. Take P.E. and Health online. (I didn’t want to do Health this year, so I’m just going to do it online.  As for P.E, well I simply don’t have room in my schedule next year for it.  It’s a lot of fun though.  Today (in P.E.) we played ultimate frisbee.  I can’t say our team was any good, but we did have fun.  🙂 )

5. READ,READ,READ!! (I LOVE reading, and several friends have recommended books to read.  I’ll make a list of good books in a later post!!)

6. Cook Something New. ( For example, I have never made keesh before.  Maybe it’s worth a try!!)

7. Practice piano. (I have gotten out of my habit of practicing this year, and want to make that habit again.)
8. Go on a Picnic. (I think this would be a lot of fun.  Don’t forget the cookies!!)

9. Learn how to braid hair and do buns.  (I know this sounds pathetic, but I just have never really learned how to braid or put my hair in a decent bun.  So, this summer, with the help of youtube and friends, I am going to learn!!)

10. Fly a Kite.  (This just sounds fun, doesn’t it?!)

11. Make a pencil case or start on a quilt. (I found this really cute pencil case pattern at this website: http://fancylittlethings.com/2011/09/sweet-verbena-sweet-lil-pencil-pouch/  I also really like to make quilts, so that’s another thing I want to do>)
12. Jump on the Tramp/Get out of the house!! (I think it’s important to not just watch Netflix all day during the summer.  At the end of the day, you will not feel satisfied and feel lazy.  Probably because you are but….  🙂  )

13.  Go stargazing.  (So, a couple Christmas’ ago, we got this really cool telescope.  But, we don’t exactly know how to use it so…. this summer I want to invite a couple friends over and hopefully we can figure out how it works.)

14. Have a Read-a-thon!! (I know, you thought that was just for 4th graders, but I think it would be fun!!)
15. Go boating!! (I LOVE boating, so we will have to do that this summer!!)

Okay, guys!!  That’s all I’ve got.  I’ll probably add more to the list as the weeks go by, but that’s it for now.  If you have any cool plans for the summer, or things you have been dying to do, let me know in the comments!!

See ya later!!  ❤ Jackie
